music from thailand #4 (phongsi woranut)

From the maemaiplengthai label. Formulaic thai ballads, sometimes with cotton club horns. the start of track 12 sounds like a wu tang loop.

Peter, would mind giving us some song titles?!

yes no problem, heh!
here you have a collection of songs by ผ่องศรี วรนุช (phongsi woranut), a very famous luk thung singer. it comprises some of her earliest recordings, between 1959 to 1964 (buddhist years 2502 to 2507). i've posted a tape from her later years here as well as some of her stuff on soundtracks here & here if you're interested!)

& here's your tracklist:
02. น้ำตาผัว (nam ta phua)
(sung by สุรพล สมบัติเจริญ (suraphon sombatcharoen)
03. ผัวจ๋า (phua cha)
13. แม่ค้าบัวลอย (mae kha bualoi)
14. สาวบางกรวย (sao bang kruay)

the song by suraphon is included as it's a challenge to her hit "tears of a wife" (his is "tears of a husband") this kind of เพลงโต้ ('pleng to' or 'dueling song') was popular in early luk thung, somewhat akin to the sparring heard between singers in calypso music! suraphon and phongsi, as the genres two biggest stars (and former bandmates), were especially vengeful!
