this was drawn by Antonio Cavazzi, a Capuchin missionary, before his death in 1678.


balafons have a sweet buzz to their notes. this traditionally came from placing bat wings or spider webs over holes in the gourd/calabash that sits under the balafon's keys. these days they use cigarette paper. it's ok by me.
